The application of wide shape Pitts wires and early elastics in treatment of patients with narrowdentoalveolar arches and deformations. A case report.
Abstract
The aim of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of the use of wide shape Pitts wires and early light short elastics on the example of treatmentin patient with narrowing of dentoalveolar arches and deformation.
The orthodontic treatment of a 12-year-old patient with deep bite, narrowing, deformation of the dentoalveolar arches, crowding teeth position, palatal occlusion of the posterior teeth and vestibular position of the tooth 1.3 is presented. The treatment was carried out using fixed orthodontic appliances of the Damon Clear system (ORMCO, USA) on the anterior group of the upper jaw teeth, Damon Q (ORMCO, USA) on the lower teeth and the posterior teeth of the upper jaw, wide forms of Pitts wires (Orthoclassic, USA) and early light short elastics. For 12,5 months of treatment, the development of the dentoalveolar arches in the transversal direction was achieved, the torque of the posterior teeth and the occlusal ratios of the teeth were normalized by mean of cross-elastics, a protocol for changing wide Pitts wires and optimal occlusal separation in the early stages of treatment.
As a result, it was revealed that the use of the protocol of sequential change of the wide Pitts wires and early light short elastics promotes the expansion of the dental arches in aesthetically significant areas (distal regions) already at the early stages of treatment. Thanks to the developed technique of the wire sequence, early control of the lateral teeth torque is possible, which ensures reliable stability of the treatment results.
